FAQs & Equipment

StageFlight are one of the most experienced wedding and party bands in the South Wales area, so you can be sure we will deliver a professional yet personal service leading up to and during your event. Here are the answers to some of the questions we are commonly asked during the booking process, together with details of our equipment.

Help! I've never booked a band before!

Don't worry - you're in good company! Most of the people who book us for their wedding have never done so before either. We can offer as much or as little advice as you need, and make the whole process as stress-free as possible. Many people who have booked us have later commented on our customer service and flexibility both before and during their performance. Your phone calls and e-mails will always be answered promptly and courteously - if you have any questions or are unsure of anything don't hesitate to contact us.

How much do you charge?

We are fully aware of the current economic climate and always aim to be competitive. Booking our popular band plus disco package will invariably be cheaper than booking a separate band and DJ. Our quote is all-inclusive and in the first instance will normally be for a typical evening party / reception running from 7.30pm - 12 midnight or 8pm - 12.30am. We treat every booking on an individual basis, so if you require an earlier start and/or later finish let us know when you contact us for a quote.

Can we come and see you play before booking?

Yes, we would be more than happy to meet with you at one of our regular practice nights in Bridgend, where we can discuss your requirements and play any particular songs you want to hear. Meeting in this informal manner allows us to spend more time with you than would be possible at an actual show, and can be on a date which is mutually convenient. However, we always respect the privacy of our clients, and since the vast majority of our bookings are for weddings and private parties, it may not always be possible for you to come and see us at an actual wedding or event. We do occasionally play "public" shows in clubs, etc., and of course then you would be welcome to come along. Please be assured that the mp3s on our Downloads page are an accurate representation of our performance - they have not been edited in any way. We can also put you in contact with one of our previous clients or venues if a reference is required.

How do we go about booking you and how do we pay?

We ask for a small non-refundable deposit to secure the booking. The balance of the fee is payable when we arrive at the venue.

When is our booking confirmed?

The booking is confirmed when we receive your deposit. Where there are multiple ongoing enquiries for a particular date (which can happen at popular times of the year for weddings), we will make you aware of this, and the first deposit received will secure the booking, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

When are you available?

We are available 7 nights a week, including the Christmas period and New Year. Please contact us for availability on a specific date.

Where are you based and how far do you travel?

We are based just to the north of Cardiff, close to the M4. We are happy to quote for any event within a reasonable travelling distance; most of our shows are within the area from Carmarthen in the west to Bristol in the east, and Brecon to the north.

What would a typical evening reception / party booking consist of?

Every booking is different and we can be flexible to meet your needs. Typically though, we will make travel arrangements in order to arrive at the venue for 7pm, and have our equipment set up and soundchecked for 8pm. We can then provide a mix of background music, solo piano, and our live set as required throughout the evening. Please note that unless other arrangements have been made, we ask you to supply your own cd for the first dance - in this way you can be sure it is the version of your song that you are expecting! Please note the disc needs to be either an original CDs or CD-R disc. CD-RW or mp3 discs are not compatible with our player.

If you choose to include a disco as well, our normal finish time is 12.30am, unless the venue stipulates an earlier finish time due to noise restrictions, licensing, etc. An earlier set-up time and/or a later finish may be available by prior arrangement.

How long do you take to set up?

Our normal setup time is about 1 hour. If the booking is for music to commence at 8pm, we will typically arrive at about 6.45 - 7pm. An earlier setup may be available by prior arrangement, this may be at extra cost in addition to our standard quote.

What are your Space and Power Requirements?

We are able to perform at any suitable venue - from a local hall or pub, to 1000+ capacity venues such as the Cardiff City Hall or Coal Exchange. We offer a fully self contained show, with our own high-quality Mackie PA system and stage/effect lighting.

The minimum space we require to set up our equipment, including PA system and lights, is 4.5 metres width by 3.5 metres depth (approx 14ft by 11 ft), and at least 2.3 metres height to accommodate our lights. Ideally, a little more space than this results in a stage setup with a more balanced and pleasing appearance.

Our minimum power requirements are the availability of at least 2 or preferably 3 mains wall sockets capable of supplying 5 Kilowatts power in total. Marquees and other temporary venues must have a professionally installed supply. Most venues and marquee companies are conversant with the needs of live bands, so please check with them if you are in any doubt.

What other facilities do you require on the night?

Apart from the space and power requirements above, the only thing we ask for is a room to get changed in - you will need to check availability  with your venue before the night. We are flexible about the type of facilities offered - however toilets, public areas, or outdoors are not acceptable!

Regarding refreshments - unlike many wedding bands we make our own arrangements and do not expect to be fed or watered at your expense!

How do we know you will turn up?

StageFlight pride ourselves on our reliability - since the band started in 2003 we have never missed a show. We use reliable transport and each hold breakdown cover. In the unlikely event of a band member falling ill, we can arrange alternative entertainment, either another band, or at reduced cost, a disco.

Do you have Public Liability Insurance and is your equipment PAT tested?

For your safety, each band member holds their own public liability insurance. Our equipment is PAT tested annually. This is now a mandatory requirement at many venues - please ensure any entertainment you book can comply!

What type of venues have you played at?

All kinds of Clubs, Pubs, Restaurants, and Wedding venues. Have a look at our Venue Experience to see some of the venues we have played at.

How long do you play for?

A typical live performance will consist of 2 sets and last between 1 hour 45 minutes and 2 hours, plus around 20-30 minutes of solo piano if requested. Of course, the length of the performance can be tailored to your exact requirements. If you have booked our band plus disco package, we will provide ambient cd music and/or disco as required throughout the remainder of the evening.

Can we request songs during the disco?

Yes you can. We carry about 3000 songs in our collection which cover the 50's up to current chart hits, so we can fulfil most requests. We use a CD based disco mixer, and if you have any unusual requests you are welcome to bring your own CDs with you. Please note they need to be either original CDs or CD-R discs. CD-RW or mp3 discs are not compatible with our player. It works out that we can play approximately 15 songs per hour on the disco, please bear this in mind before giving us a HUGE request list!
